Company description

Based in San Francisco, Kraken is the world’s largest global bitcoin exchange in euro volume and liquidity. Kraken’s clients also trade USD, CAD, ETH, XRP, LTC and other digital currencies, on a platform consistently rated the best and most secure bitcoin exchange by independent news media. Kraken’s employees are generally not listed on LinkedIn due the company’s security policy. Founded in 2011, Kraken was the first bitcoin exchange to have its market data displayed on the Bloomberg Terminal, the first to pass a cryptographically verifiable proof-of-reserves audit, and one of the first exchanges to offer leveraged bitcoin margin trading. Kraken is trusted by millions of traders, institutions, and authorities across the world, from Toyko’s court-appointed trustee to Germany’s BaFin regulated Fidor Bank. In January 2016, Kraken announced that it was acquiring prominent bitcoin exchanges Coinsetter and Cavirtex to expand into American and Canadian markets. In 2019 Kraken acquired Crypto Facilities a registered futures platform. Kraken is backed by investors including, Money Partners Group, Hummingbird Ventures, Blockchain Capital, and Digital Currency Group, among others. "We wake up every single day determined to change the world by delivering a great exchange. Bitcoin is more than just a new way to make purchases. It’s even more than a protocol for exchanging value over the internet without an intermediary. We are empowering people to live simply, efficiently and more connected to others. We put our clients’ best interests first and foremost. They are at the heart of our company and drive everything we do. We believe in having a laser focus when pursuing our strategic goals and participate only in markets where we can make a significant contribution. We believe in complete transparency, deep collaboration and we never forget that people come first. Having this mindset allows us to grow and advance at a rate which others cannot." Jesse Powell, CEO of Kraken

Great job and culture!
Status: Employed
This is the most collaborative environment I've ever been, everybody wants you to succeed and you can smell the good spirit in the air. So far I've only found great ways to improve and more tasks in a very diverse environment if you have a skill you will probably find it working with Kraken, let your talent thrive!
Pros
Unlimited PTO, Remote job post, Flexible schedules
Cons
No full benefits as a contractor ofc, but shouldn't be an issue given all the pros

Grow your strengths with a growing company
Status: Employed
Remote work can change your life! The flexibility that Kraken provides has helped me keep my work/life balance healthy for once. Kraken is a great place to make connections to the crypto world and technology in general. I've experienced constant opportunities to learn and excel. The management is attentive and will find the right position for you. There is so much groundbreaking talent at Kraken and staying inspired about the work we do is easy. It's an exciting and thrilling industry to be in, however, there are risks involved. Kraken takes its security seriously and has all the employees develop a healthy sense of paranoia that carries on into our daily lives.
Pros
remote work, room for growth, travel, talented co-workers
Cons
health care benefits only for US employees. remote work can be lonely.

You want your idea to be valued? Stay away from Kraken
Status: Previously employed
On the first day at work and you are welcome by "extremely friendly" people. You seem to like it at first, you are wrong."Culture fit" is always mentioned in Kraken, every single day. I trust that "culture fit" would make Kraken a "political" company. You are surrounded with two-faces colleagues. Noone there dares to stand up and raise their voices to correct mistakes; instead, they "politely" soften the issue to avoid confrontation. They are scared to be themselves, because if they do, they would be targeted to be eliminated with the one-and-only-reason: "culture-fit". "Your words will be against you, anytime". You share your view with sb in the company? Be careful, they would stab you on your back once they find out that you may threaten their positions. Your boss is not trustworthy. They know who is better, but they decide to keep whom they like. You have different ideas from your boss? You will be marked "defensive", or "cannot get along with the team". You are ambitious? You find yourself talented? Stay away from Kraken!
Pros
Flexibility
Cons
Unskillful management team

It’s a cool job but management doesn’t do their job.
Status: Previously employed
Overall it’s a cool job to have but if you’re the productive and proactive type, your coworkers and management will take advantage and pass off the work load to you. Also, the operations manager tried to come on to me and when I wouldn’t accept his advances he got upset. He basically fired me because of it and tried to frame it as I wasn’t trying to do my job.
Pros
Cool job, fun to throw axes
Cons
Terrible work culture, semi hazardous work conditions(wood dust, metal shaving dust, and glass dust), not really great for people who are productive, proactive, and team players.
