What you will be doing

The Senior Copywriter is a writing leader who drives content initiatives and manages content development for the Global Pharma Services business segment at AmerisourceBergen. This position partners with marketers to create a variety of promotional materials, ranging from brochures, ads, and sales aids to presentations and emails. They may also help execute content marketing initiatives that drive business results. The Senior Copywriter will be embedded within a specific business area but will also function as part of the writing staff within AmerisourceBergen’s Creative Center of Excellence (COE).

  • Writes copy for various projects; participates in strategic discussions during project kickoffs and other meetings.
  • Researches, explores, and analyzes complex subject areas to identify and define narratives that bring important business topics to life for key biopharma and payer customers.
  • Serves as a primary writer of promotional materials for our biopharma facing businesses.
  • Researches, writes, and edits content that helps AmerisourceBergen customers do their jobs more effectively or that influences how they perceive larger industry trends. Content may include, but is not limited to, digital ad copy, messaging documents, social media posts, video scripts, infographics, emails, presentations, interactive content, and web copy.
  • Generates “big-idea” campaigns, including related messaging and other mixed-media assets, such as videos, images, infographics, and other emerging storytelling techniques.
  • Regularly partners with segment/business leaders and multidisciplinary teams in a matrixed environment; partners with lead marketers and digital campaign managers to drive content engagement. Leverages insights, metrics, and marketplace information to optimize content.
  • Leads content-related ideation.
  • Develops messaging for multiple audiences, based upon customer insights and metrics.
  • Manages multiple projects according to deadline; orchestrates proper workflows with critical team members to maintain high levels of quality; shepherds projects through a content production and evaluation process.
  • Presents content within internal and customer-facing meetings; articulates rationale for their approach.
  • Reviews and edits his or her own work; evaluates the work of freelancers and other writers.
  • Ensures all writing is on-brand, consistent in style and tone of voice, and optimized for user experience in an omnichannel environment, including print, PPT presentations, online, email, mobile, video, and tradeshow.
  • Works closely with designers to express copy in visually interesting ways; provides copy guidance and rationale to designers and other teams across the organization.
  • Functions as a copywriting leader within the Creative COE and for COE-related initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What your background should look like

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience as a writer, preferably in an agency, healthcare, corporate, newsroom, or consulting environment
  • Portfolio containing work samples that demonstrate exceptional writing skills (Ideal portfolios will contain a variety of writing types: long-form articles, short-form copy, and ad copy, for example)
  • Significant, proven experience functioning as an independent writing resource within a larger team
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, or other relevant area
  • Strong knowledge of marketing principles and best practices
  • Solid experience writing within healthcare, life sciences, or pharma; B2B experience a plus, but not required
  • Experience developing sales PPT presentations
  • Managerial approach to completing projects; desire and ability to completely “own” the writing function for many assignments
  • Desire and ability to give copy guidance and direction to team members
  • Strong storytelling ability
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to articulate ideas to teams of marketers, writers, and designers
  • Team player par excellence; capable of forging meaningful relationships across multiple disciplines
  • Able to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Quick study; able to rapidly process large amounts of complex information
  • Basic understanding of digital communications and media channels preferred
  • Knowledge of AP style a plus, but not required

  • $68,700 - 98,340This Salary Range reflects a National Average for this job. The actual range may vary based on your locale. Ranges in Colorado-specific locations may be up to 10% lower than the minimum salary range, and 12% higher than the maximum salary range.
